On a Saturday morning in mid- October 2021, at the Andrew Freeman Home in the Bronx, NY, vegan vendors set up a market in preparation for the community at large to enjoy a unique and rare experience. The second of its kind, the Vegan Bronx Market was held for the first time in September, where vendor banners and tents were hung and pitched in the courtyard of the historical location. The sunny
atmosphere and soft Afro house music spun by a local DJ, set a warm tone for entrepreneurs to promote their specialty vegan cuisine and insightful knowledge to a growing audience.
Veganism now rides a wave that is approaching a mainstream trend and
people are more than curious about it. The previous notions about boring salads and tofu are now replaced with highly nutritious and tasty entrees and deserts, which the
food traders demonstrated amazingly at the second VB Market Expo. The experience
provided a positive platform for people to hang out, eat, and listen to great music.
The entrepreneurs collaborated on the solid objective of educating the Bronx community at the Vegan Bronx Market, all while supporting each other in health and wellness.
Veganism may have been a hipster cliche, but the Vegan Bronx Market is
establishing a new ideal through their surging popularity and influence in the heart
of the Bronx. The News 12 broadcast channel made an appearance, interviewing
the founders of this newly trending event, Raidyriss and her husband Chris. After years of dedicated work to plant-based innovation, the couple has now taken to the streets to get the word out and mainstream veganism and it’s effects on personal health and well being. This trendy event managed by the couple, has created a new category that is robust, energetic, and flush with entrepreneurs who collaboratively are challenging the
traditional food industry.
By late afternoon, the courtyard at the Andrew Freeman Home is buzzing with
people engaging with vendors, and the vegan spirt alive with the sounds of a live Jazz band. The soaring energy at the event climaxed with a live drum circle that enticed dancing and celebration, which proved to be a testament to the
success of the event. Over the course of the day, many people streamed in both
visitors to the area and locals who caught the buzz of the vegan phenomenon.
There has been a knock-out effect to the success of the VB Market with numerous people citing their new love for vegan foods, and their changed opinions of veganism. The VB Market and its founders are critical to motivating the Bronx towards change in their approach to veganism and now we see the beautiful effects in our community.
